Four goals in a six-minute span spurred the Sedona Red Rock High School boys soccer team to a 6-2 win over North Phoenix Preparatory Academy in its 3A Region 1 opener on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Scorpions [1-1, 1-0 3A Region 1] relied heavily on beating the Gladiators, a co-ed team, down the right side and crossing the ball to create their best scoring chances, including three of their goals.

Sedona Red Rock High School’s girls basketball team fell just short of repeating as champion of its own Red Rock Hoops Classic, losing 47-41 to 5A Betty H. Fairfax High School on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Failing to capitalize in transition on the Stampede’s misses and an overall rushed offense saw the Scorpions score 20 less points than the teams’ first matchup on Friday, Dec. 1.

With five more games under its belt, the Sedona Red Rock High School boys basketball team took another step forward, going 3-2 at the seventh annual Red Rock Hoops Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2.

The Scorpions showed improvement from their season opener against Chino Valley High School on Nov. 28, aided by the additions of junior guard Evan Favorite and sophomore guard Jackson Coughlin. Red Rock head coach Paul Bain knows that there is still much left to unlock.

It was a game of many firsts for the Sedona Red Rock High School boys soccer team; head coach Daniel Valenzuela’s debut and the first for the team as a relatively new group.

The boys team made the long journey to Tonopah Valley High School for a non-region contest, falling 2-1.

Entering the 2017-18 season, there was some uncertainty as to how the Sedona Red Rock High School girls basketball team would be able to play.

In fact, weeks before the season started there almost was not a team at all.

Nonetheless the Scorpions ran their way to a 58-28 season debut win over Chino Valley High School on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

A game-winning shot propelled the Sedona Red Rock High School’s boys basketball team to a 51-50 win that felt more like a narrow escape than a hard-earned win over Chino Valley High School on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The Scorpions were energetic at both ends of the floor only in the first half, and only survived the Cougars’ frenetic second-half comeback as senior guard Hayden Bruce hit a long two-pointer with 21 seconds remaining to lift the team to victory.
